What are the Different Types of Variables?

Document-level variables are stored locally in your Microsoft® Word document. These document-level variables are located and accessible only in the document where they are created.

Repository-level variables are stored centrally in your SmartDocs repository. These variables can be shared across documents and writers.

Locked variables do not allow the value to be changed on the document level and are used to represent static text (e.g., your company name, company address, etc.).

Unlocked variables will have their values defined on a document-by-document basis.
