My SmartDocs Tab has Disappeared from Microsoft Word

After a problem with SmartDocs or a system crash, the SmartDocs tab may not display. When this happens it means that Microsoft® Word has stopped loading the SmartDocs Add-in – the add-in may have been disabled.

To Re-enable the SmartDocs Add-in and Restore the SmartDocs Tab in Microsoft Word

Word 2007

1. Click the round Office button.
2. Select Word Options.
3. Select the Add-ins tab.
4. Select Disabled items from the Manage drop-down list.
5. Click Go.
6. Select SmartDocs in the Disabled Items dialog box.
7. Click Enable.

Word 2010 and 2013

1. Select the File tab.
2. Select Options.
3. Select the Add-ins tab.
4. Select Disabled items from the Manage drop-down list.
5. Click Go.
6. Select SmartDocs in the Disabled Items dialog box.
7. Click Enable.

SmartDocs will load and the SmartDocs tab will now display in the ribbon.
